SpaceX is an American aerospace manufacturer space transportation services and communications company headquartered in Hawthorne, California. The founder of the spaceX project is entrepreneur Elon Musk. He found it in 2002 with the goal of reducing space transportation costs to enable the colonization of Mars.

KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, Fla. — Elon Musk's SpaceX is set to make history with a launch of 4 civilians in what would be the first full crew of nonprofessional astronauts to fly to space.

The mission, known as Inspiration4, is scheduled to lift off Wednesday night, with a 5 hours window that opens at 8:02 p.m. ET.

What are some things to expect when you go on a SpaceX capsule mission?

1. Safety. Before the four astronauts even step foot into the Dragon spacecraft, they're subject to a rigorous health and fitness test. 

Mark Vande Hei, Joe Acaba, Douglas Hurley and Victor Glover, known collectively as the Commercial Crew Program astronauts, successfully passed the test, which includes simulated weightlessness and a simulated emergency situation.

Milner wanted to find an inexpensive way to send an exploratory mission to Mars, so he and his partner, investor Mark Zuckerberg, started the private space company, SpaceIL, which hired longtime NASA engineer and test pilot Bob Richards.

What are some of the challenges that come with this new age in space travel?

Astronauts Scott Tingle, Mark Vande Hei, Joe Acaba and Ricky Arnold will be aboard the mission, with each man looking to become a three-time space traveler, launching into space from the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida. 

Their mission is the first of many for SpaceX, the brainchild of Musk, who hopes to eventually send tourists to the moon and one day develop a Mars colony.

How is space tourism changing the industry?

The mission, which has been in the works since 2013, is designed to demonstrate a range of technology that SpaceX hopes will one day make a journey to Mars possible.

 While this mission was only recently announced, it reflects a commitment to the mission that the company had said was being pursued more than two years ago.

 For future missions, SpaceX envisions an increasingly routine launch rate that would eventually lower the cost of a ticket.
